Letter from Edra Bogle and John Bode to Kenneth George, Denton County sheriff, about a murder that took place in Lake Dallas on April 20th. Bogle states that there is a planned GLAD picnic in that area on May 4th. She is asking that there be a police presence at the picnic to avoid any "unpleasant incidents."

Originally formed as the Texas Gay Task Force, the TGLTF was the first statewide gay/lesbian organization in Texas. Organized in 1973 for the purpose of planning annual conferences (until 1990), the TGLTF served as the parent organization for the Lesbian/Gay Democrats of Texas and the Lesbian/Gay Rights Advocates. Dear Sheriff George,

Prior to the murder which took place at Lake Dallas on Sunday, April 20, our organization, the Gay/Lesbian Association of Denton, had made plans to have a picnic at Queen’s Point on the afternoon of Sunday, May 4. We had expected approximately 80-100 people to attend. These would be largely Denton area men and women, including students from both universities and a number of townspeople.

At our general business meeting last night, concern was expressed regarding the personal safety of those planning to participate. As spokespersons of GLAD we were asked to relate this concern to your department and to request a police presence during the hours of the picnic in order to avoid any unpleasant incidents.

We would appreciate your considering how this matter might best be handled. So that we can inform our members in sufficient time, we will contact you on Monday to ascertain what measures your department can take to provide adequate protection for those citizens coming to our picnic.
