Letter from Edra Bogle to Mike Gorman, who was in a recent edition of the Advocate as being connected to the gay caucus of the American Anthropological Association. Dr. Bogle is working to create a course of gay studies and is inviting Gorman to speak with the group in his capacity as an anthropologist.

Originally formed as the Texas Gay Task Force, the TGLTF was the first statewide gay/lesbian organization in Texas. Organized in 1973 for the purpose of planning annual conferences (until 1990), the TGLTF served as the parent organization for the Lesbian/Gay Democrats of Texas and the Lesbian/Gay Rights Advocates. Dear Mr. Gorman,

In the March 8 issue of The Advocate your name and address was given in connection with the organization of a gay caucus of the American Anthropological Association.

I am co-coordinator of a course in gay studies which the newly-organized Gay Academic Union-North Texas is planning to offer through the First Unitarian Church in Dallas beginning in February. We are planning six sessions to deal with various topics to and to be presented by experts in their fields, such as psychologists, faculty members, and lawyers, both straight and gay. For our session on history, we would like to include an anthropologist, but our members (from SMU, UTD, NTSU, etc.) have been unable to come up with any names.

Do you have any members in this area who might be interested in helping us with this session? We will probably be able to pay for minimum expenses, but that’s about all. One need not identify oneself as gay; all publicity will include a disclaimer, and we do have persons with an interest in gay topics but who are not themselves gay who will appear.
