Dorothy Scott joined the Women's Auxiliary Ferrying Squadron (WAFS) in 1942. Stationed at New Castle Army Air Base and with the 5th Ferrying Squadron at Love Field, Dallas, Texas. Died in 1943 while in Pursuit training.

Dear Dad:
Sunday three of us old WAFS were put on order– Pt’s to Georgia. While waiting to leave for Wichita, transition asked us to check out on PQ8’s– those culver cadets radio controlled. However we couldn’t fly because of local thunderstorms so I’m still waiting that thrill.
We left at midnight by plane for Oklahoma City- not Witchia because it was closed in so the airliner wouldn't land there.
We stayed in the depot all nite until 7 a.m. when we took a very crowded train the rest of the way.
We got to Wichita about 10 a.m. and were in the air by 12:30. We stopped in Ok. City for gas and went on to Dallas for overnite.
Paul and Penn met me when I landed so we headed right for the lake and our boat and got in a good bit of swimming and boating before I went home to finally get some sleep.
Then today we got as far as here C.A.V.V. weather, but couldn’t go on due to thunderstorms some more.

We’re stopping here tonite– where I just ever ROH’d in the ferry command. We’ll deliver tomorrow if weather permits, then get back in time for me to get a day off to get some sun-tan.
I’m flight leader this trip too, and do most of the navigating etc. ‘cause I like to. We flew low over some of the bad flood areas near Vicksburg– boy, the trees are all swimming.
Our next trip will likely be the At17’s as soon as we all get checked out in them. Personally the At17’s and the At6
are more fun. [(censored)] Today by pre-arrangement we broke off for 10 minutes and looped and snap-rolled just for exercise. This seemed to be our last chance because we don’t when new WAFS are along. (It’s Bohn & Richards with me this time.)
Don wrote of asking for leave. I think he should get it later on and you both come down here– it’ll save space & time) I’ll bet he’s anxious to see my boat too.
Don’t you think I have lots of fun for one person?
