[written at the top in pencil: "no ans"]
January 2, 1971
Mr. Lyndon B. Johnson,
Johnson City,
Texas
[written in blue ink: no answer naturally]
Dear Mr. Johnson:
Reference is made to the Z-rox copy of question and answer in ACTION LINE, Dallas Times Herald 12/22/70. Like the ho-bo in the cartoon, I would like to now if you are receiving what seems to a social security retiree as exorbitant sums.
I simply cannot believe that an ex-President who happens to be in the millionaire bracket would accept such a large sum from taxes, a great portion of which is taken from businesses which are hard pressed to stay in business because of excessive taxes; to say nothing of taxpayers who are living on social security retirement pay.
I shall be pleased if you will advise me the truth in this matter.
Very sincerely,
[signature]
Mrs. Cordye Hall
[address redacted]
P.S. would you be kind enough to hand the enclosed bulletin of ANOTHER MOTHER FOR PEACE to Lady Bird with my request that she join the mothers of the world in our war on war! Thank you!
[written at the bottom in blue ink: Copy - Mr. Harry Truman]
